Xavier University invites nominations and applications for the position of Dean of the Graduate School (DGS). The DGS is an integral part of the academic leadership team of the University and reports directly to the Provost and Chief Academic Officer. The position has oversight for all graduate programs in conjunction with the Deans of the colleges. Responsibilities include marketing and recruitment of the graduate programs and in conjunction with Marketing and Communication, management of the external partnerships pertaining to graduate programs. It is also charged with overseeing the general graduate student experience and working directly with the Deans to care for our graduate programs and students.

Xavier is in the midst of an exciting period of growth and transformation and the DGS participates in many of the key areas necessary for continued progress. Thus, the ideal candidate will be highly organized in her/his own work, have a fundamental respect for the work of others, and be able to create an atmosphere of trust and collaboration. The ideal candidate will be a person who knows how to lead by example and who empowers those around them.

The successful candidate will have a terminal degree in a discipline appropriate to the University; academic credentials appropriate for faculty status and be tenured to the University; have extensive experience with graduate programs, a demonstrated ability to develop, implement, and promote institutional objectives, including consensus building; have excellent oral and written communication skills and mastery of applied technology in the academic setting; and a commitment to a vision of diversity and the Catholic Jesuit mission of the University with the highest standards of professional and ethical integrity.

She/He will have the ability to plan, direct, and evaluate a complex operation, integrating resources, policies and information towards the accomplishment of long-term and short-term goals of the institution. She/He will have the capacity to organize work effectively, conceptualize and prioritize objectives and exercise independent judgment based on an understanding organizational policies and activities, and demonstrate strong analytical/data analysis skills. The ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with students, faculty, staff, and the public is integral to the position. She/He must be able to provide administrative guidance within the area of responsibility, providing direct training and supervision as needed and to apply budgetary and fiscal planning techniques within financial constraints.
