CAS 102 Seminar. College of Arts and Sciences and Office of Student Success in Enrollment and Student Experience at Syracuse University seek part-time instructors to teach one credit course for 2021 Summer Session II: CAS 102 Summer Seminar. Course is offered in person on main campus for this residential program.
CAS 102 is designed to help ensure a smooth transition from high school to college for newly admitted students into Syracuse University. Participation in Summer Session II provides pre-freshmen with an opportunity to become familiar with the academic, social, and cultural life at Syracuse. Summer Session II dates for this summer are July 19 – August 27, 2021.
Teaching requirements are for this 1-credit seminar course, offered during Summer Session II only.
Qualifications
Master’s degree (earned or in progress) in Student Personnel, Higher Education or related field is preferred.
Job Specific Qualifications Responsibilities
• Must be enthusiastic about teaching pre-freshmen and the first-year college experience.
• Participate in staff development activities to include one day-long orientation meeting in May 2021.
• Attend syllabus review meetings with the Seminar Course Coordinator, who will prepare the syllabus.
• Must be able to effectively create a safe and inclusive learning environment for a diverse student population
• Must be comfortable facilitating safe and inclusive discussions pertaining to course curriculum amongst a diverse student population
• Must be prepared to meet with the CAS 102 Coordinator, Program Manager and Interim Executive Director of Student Success and the academic counselors in the Office of Support Services regarding student development.
• Prepare mid-term and final student evaluations to share with academic counselors. Complete mid-semester progress reports in Orange Success. Raise Orange Success flags when appropriate.
• Be available to meet with students as needed.
• Must attend all designated in-person class periods.
• Must grade student assignments and provide student feedback in a timely manner.
