Position Summary

Two NIH -funded postdoctoral fellow positions focused on studying endocannabinoid signaling in health and disease are available in the laboratory of Dr. Samir Haj-Dahmane, in the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology at Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, University at Buffalo.

Specific emphasis will be placed on understanding the mechanisms controlling the transport of endocannabinoids and other lipids in the brain. This work will incorporate the use of in vitro electrophysiology, in vivo imaging and circuit specific manipulations with optogenetic tools in transgenic mice.

Ideal candidates will be highly motivated and able to:
• Contribute to existing programs as well as to develop their own research program.
• Prepare manuscripts for peer-reviewed journals and assist in grant writing.
• Communicate study results in a public setting, such as conferences.
• Provide work coordination to technicians and guidance to graduate students as needed.
• Work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment, conceptualizing and prioritizing objectives and exercising independent judgment.

Minimum Qualifications

PhD or MD in related discipline.

Preferred Qualifications

A strong background in system neuroscience research with a track record of leading projects to publication is preferred. Candidates who have experience with in vitro electrophysiological recordings, in vivo imaging and behavioral techniques are strongly encouraged to apply. The postdoctoral fellows will be expected to direct independent projects in a multi-disciplinary setting and collaborate with the other members of the laboratory.
