Reporting to a Pro-Vice-Chancellor, the appointee will provide
inspirational and strategic leadership to the communications and
brand-building functions. He/She will support the senior management
in cultivating, building and nurturing resource partners as well as
institutional strategic partnerships and alliances that are
essential for advancing and enhancing the reputation, status and
impact of CUHK.
Working closely with other Pro-Vice-Chancellors/Vice-Presidents,
the person will (a) advise the senior management on all matters
relating to the University’s strategic objectives in connection
with external engagement and outreach; (b) develop relevant
activities, such as branding, marketing, communications, relations
with the media and the general public; (c) develop and enhance
existing relationships and partnerships with external stakeholders,
including prospective staff and students, alumni, donors, academic
institutions, industry, civic and political leaders, and build new
relationships/partnerships; (d) engage and outreach to stakeholders
to enable the University’s education, research and services to be
more responsive to societal needs and to maximise impact for the
benefits of society; (e) work collaboratively with professional and
administrative service units via civic and community engagement to
enable stakeholders to better understand the University’s values,
mission, vision and action; (f) build, enhance, monitor and protect
the University’s reputations and perceptions of stakeholders and
the general public; and (g) enhance the University’s standing and
stature in the multimedia ecosystem by proactive communication
with, and timely responses to, stakeholders and the general public
through the media.
Applicants should have (i) a first degree and preferably a higher
degree; (ii) substantial progressively responsible experience in,
and a track record of, strategic external engagement in the private
or public sector, preferably including experience at regional and
international levels; (iii) experience of developing senior-level
external relationships harnessing strong networks across multiple
stakeholder groups; (iv) proven competence in driving consensus and
building effective working relationships; (v) demonstrated advanced
skills in strategic planning and performance analysis at senior
level in sizeable organisation(s); and (vi) excellent
communication, negotiation and presentation skills.
The appointee will assume a post of Director and be offered the
role of Associate Vice-President if appropriate. Appointment will
initially be made on contract basis for up to three years,
renewable subject to mutual agreement. Review of applications will
