About the Position:

The Faculty Support Services (FSS) unit collaborates with other campus divisions and units to provide support and services to all faculty. We are seeking an exceptional individual to join our team as the Associate Vice President for Faculty Affairs and Support. The ideal candidate should have a positive attitude, an active, energetic mind, and a leadership style that is characterized by highly ethical practices and a commitment to diversity, openness, flexibility, integrity, and kindness.

Reporting to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs with partial supervision by the Vice President for Information Technology, the Associate Vice President for Faculty Affairs and Support (AVPFAS) provides vision and strategic leadership across a portfolio of functions. The AVPFAS provides leadership, guidance, planning and implementation of policies, practices, programs, and initiatives that foster inclusive excellence and equitable outcomes for faculty in relation to: recruitment and retention strategies; the evaluation and retention, tenure, and promotion (RTP) process; leave programs; award programs; professional development opportunities; academic technology; and various other university and system-wide programs and initiatives. The AVPFAS collaborates with multiple campus offices, constituencies, committees, departments and units and advises senior leadership regarding policies, practices, programs, and initiatives to support faculty success and meet strategic goals and objectives. The AVPFAS promotes best practices and provides leadership, mentorship, and strategic direction for various offices including Faculty Affairs and Records, Faculty Development Center, Online Education and Training, and Academic Technology Center. The AVPFAS leverages technology and tools to supplement data-informed strategies and executes assessment and annual reporting for AVPFAS units and initiatives. The AVPFAS is responsible for determining and developing approaches to solutions and establishing internal processes and procedures in support of University and strategic goals. Other duties as assigned.


Essential Qualifications:
Experience as a Department Chair, Associate Dean, Center Director, or AVP. Experience managing change processes at the department, college, and/or campus level. Experience facilitating committees and working groups beyond one’s home department. Experience furthering diversity, equity, and inclusion practices at the department, college, and/or campus level. Achievement of rank of Associate Professor, with tenure. Demonstrated interest in student success. Demonstrated interest in faculty success. Experience collaborating with faculty and staff. Knowledge of CSUF campus evaluation and RTP practices. Experience in the evaluation of faculty (as a chair or on a Department Personnel/Peer Review Committee [DPC/DPRC]) . Experience with Information Technology and accessibility initiatives.

A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.


Preferred Qualifications:
Familiarity with the CSUF Academic Senate. Knowledge of CSU system policies and the CSU/CFA Collective Bargaining Agreement. At least three years of experience at CSUF. Experience with campus budget processes. Experience with staff management/supervision. Knowledge of policies and procedures at CSUF. Achievement of the rank of Professor. Excellent communication skills - written and oral. Proven ability to elevate others, individually or collectively. Excellent collaborative skills. Knowledge of Academic Technologies including Learning Management Systems. Knowledge of CSU Accessibility Technology Initiatives (ATI) and ability to work with faculty to make Instruction Materials accessible. Proven commitment to innovative practices that support diversity, equity, and inclusion.
