who hold full-time, non-tenure track position with a maximum
appointment period of seven years, subject to annual
reappointment.
CAMPUS SPECIFIC INFORMATION
In collaboration with eight of CUNY’s senior campuses, Macaulay
Honors College (MHC) provides the most promising undergraduate
students with an elite academic program of interdisciplinary
seminars, personalized advisement, and experiential learning
supported by dedicated funding for study abroad, internships, and
research. With approximately 2,100 students distributed on campuses
across the five boroughs of New York City, Macaulay’s student body
embraces the diversity of New York and represents the best and
brightest of our next generation of leaders.
Macaulay Honors College at the City University of New York is
seeking four Distinguished Lecturers. Beginning in Fall 2021, the
successful candidates will teach core Macaulay seminars on Arts in
New York City, The People of New York City, and/or The Future of
New York City, and develop specialty courses for upper-level
students. They may also develop courses for the Justice and Equity
Honors Network (JEHN), a collaboration between Macaulay Honors
College and Barrett Honors College (Arizona State University).
These faculty may also teach courses in their home or related
disciplines on the branch campuses of Macaulay Honors
College. The Distinguished Lecturer line is renewable
annually, for a maximum of seven years; we expect these to be
three-year commitments.
The incumbents will also take leadership roles in faculty
development, student mentorship, and scholarly event planning.
Macaulay values student-centered pedagogy, critical examination and
use of educational technologies, and experiential and project-based
learning; the successful candidates will bring these elements to
their courses. This position reports to the Chief Academic
Officer.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree and a record of achievement in a profession or
field of expertise related to teaching assignments. Also
required is the ability to cooperate with others for the good of
the institution.
A preferred candidate should have:
- Ph.D. (or the equivalent terminal degree or extensive record of
creative or scholarly achievement and recognition) in the
humanities, social sciences, or a closely related field.
- Experience with honors students and demonstrated commitment to
implementing instructional technologies in student-centered
ways.
- A focus on interdisciplinary research and teaching, Black/ethnic
studies, gender and sexuality studies, or related disciplines is
preferred.
- Demonstrated record of teaching excellence and academic program
advancement (i.e. curriculum development, interdisciplinary
collaborations, conference planning, and program outreach).
- A record of strong and successful teaching experience in the
undergraduate classroom, preferably at a public college or
university.
- Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends.
