Associate Vice President and Associate Dean (Academic Administrator)

The Office of Undergraduate Education at the Pennsylvania State University seeks qualified candidates for the position of Associate Vice President and Associate Dean for Undergraduate Education. The Associate Vice President and Associate Dean is a member of the Vice President and Dean's leadership team and works collaboratively with the Vice President and Dean for Undergraduate Education and other University leaders to advance the strategic goals and innovation priorities of the Office of Undergraduate Education (OUE). The OUE is a university-wide organization that works collaboratively to support our nearly 75,000 undergraduate students, and our faculty, and staff across Penn State's twenty undergraduate campuses. OUE includes the following units: Division of Undergraduate Studies, Morgan Academic Center, General Education, Summer Session, Student Aid, Registrar, ROTC, Penn State Learning, Prior Learning Assessment, Sokolov-Miller Family Financial and Life Skills Center, Student Engagement Network, Student Orientation and Transition Programs, Student Success Center, Undergraduate Admissions, and Undergraduate Research and Fellowships Mentoring.

The position has a diverse portfolio of responsibilities that may include but is not limited to providing collaborative leadership for University-wide, data-informed initiatives on the undergraduate student experience, student learning and success, closing opportunity gaps, and helping all our students thrive. In addition, the Associate Vice President and Associate Dean will represent Undergraduate Education on various University committees and will work closely with senior administrators of academic colleges and campuses and in a variety of units including Student Affairs, Outreach, and Global Programs, and with the leadership of the University Faculty Senate.

Qualified candidates will have:
  • Experience with undergraduate education and a high level of understanding of major issues and emerging trends within higher education that impact undergraduate students
  • A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Outstanding written and oral communication skills
  • High energy and creativity
  • A proven record of effective leadership, organizational and managerial skills, and the ability to build critical, collaborative partnerships across the University


Candidates must possess qualifications consistent with the highest available degree in their discipline along with 12 years of related job experience and a minimum of three years of experience in higher education administration. The Associate Vice President and Associate Dean is a full-time, 48-week appointment and reports to the Vice President and Dean.
