Indiana University East seeks a collaborative and visionary leader to serve as Dean for its School of Natural Science and Mathematics, to start August 2021. The Dean reports to the Executive Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs (EVCAA) and serves as a member of the Academic Deans Council. The Dean provides leadership for the faculty, staff and students in the School of Natural Science and Mathematics by cultivating a collaborative learning and scholarly environment with a focus on inclusive student engagement and success. The Dean has the administrative responsibility to promote the mission of IU East through all aspects of the School, including student retention and success; faculty recruitment, professional development and evaluation; curriculum, assessment and improvement; budget management and fundraising; and other matters related to the well-being of the school and its faculty, staff and students. The Dean will be expected to facilitate the development and implementation of strategic priorities for the School to address the evolving academic needs and career interests of today’s student. This is an administrative position with faculty status; teaching opportunities are available but not required.
About the School of Natural Science and Mathematics
The School of Natural Science and Mathematics offers 10 distinct
degrees and concentrations, 6 undergraduate minors, 3 undergraduate
certificates, 3 graduate certificates and 3 graduate degrees. All
graduate programs in science and mathematics and undergraduate
programs in mathematics are delivered online. The undergraduate
science programs give students the flexibility of completing some
of their course work online, while providing hands-on laboratory
training. One highly sought-after program in the school is the
Online BS in Mathematics.
The School has dedicated use of seven laboratories for teaching and research in biology, chemistry, physics, and geology. In the past decade, significant investment has been directed towards obtaining new instrumentation. Currently, the school has a confocal microscope, high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), UV-visible and infrared spectrophotometers, a benchtop NMR spectrometer, and a number of high-speed centrifuges, in addition to an array of portable equipment used in the teaching laboratories.
Currently, the School includes 18 full-time faculty, and 6 professional and support staff. The School has approximately 600 students enrolled in its undergraduate and graduate programs; in addition, it provides general education and elective courses for students across the campus.
