General summary/purpose

The responsibilities of a Software Developer include design, implementation, testing, documentation, and support of product and project features. The ideal candidate will possess technical expertise in Java, JavaScript and Microsoft SQL Server, which encompass the core of our enterprise web-based application development efforts.

Specific duties & responsibilities

    The Technology Innovation Center (TIC) is uniquely positioned within Johns Hopkins to help design, build, and deploy novel enterprise, departmental, and clinical applications that strive to improve workflow, outcomes, and patient care. Turn data and algorithms into useful visualization tools, improving workflows such as patient hand-off, rounding, and cross-team collaboration, and helping patients with medication adherence, data gathering, and overall clinical education. MyJH, the enterprise portal for all Hopkins faculty, learners, researchers, and affiliates; Team CORUS, our HIPAA-compliant, patient-centered communications platform

Minimum qualifications (mandatory):

  • Bachelor’s degree. Additional experience may be substituted for education.
  • One year of related work experience. Additional education may be substituted for experience.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Software development experience in healthcare IT.

Technical qualifications or specialized certifications:

  • Has familiarity with a handful of development languages, but has expertise in one or two languages
  • Has worked on at least one multi-person project and is familiar with the concept of ‘the whole is greater than the sum of its parts’
  • Is comfortable reviewing code and contributing to an established application
  • Is eager to learn a Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) methodology
  • Is comfortable focusing on a primary project while contributing to other projects as time permits
  • Is familiar with RESTful API concepts and developing distributed software systems.

During the Influenza ("the flu") season, as a condition of employment, The Johns Hopkins Institutions require all employees who provide ongoing services to patients or work in patient care or clinical care areas to have an annual influenza vaccination or possess an approved medical or religious exception. Failure to meet this requirement may result in termination of employment.

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
