Chief purpose of this position in support of above mission or goal

The Term Assistant Professor will demonstrate through teaching, service, and public engagement the richness of diversity in learning experiences and integrate multicultural approaches and perspectives into instructional methods and research. They will teach both online and face-to-face graduate courses in educational leadership and practice with a focus on higher education, work with doctoral students on capstones and dissertations, and advise/supervise/mentor students. The professor will also engage in service to the department, school, university, surrounding community, and national/international professional organizations.

Position Responsibilities

The primary responsibilities for this position will be teaching and service. This individual will teach online and face-to-face graduate courses in educational leadership and practice with a focus on higher education, work with doctoral students on capstones and dissertations, and advise/supervise/mentor students. They will also engage in service to the department, school, university, surrounding community, and national/international professional organizations

Required Qualifications

- Earned doctorate in higher education leadership and practice or related field
- Experience in higher education leadership and practice or education-related organizational leadership and practice
- Experience facilitating and/or leading adult learning
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment
- Strong facilitation and problem solving skills
- Experience with online delivery of instruction
- Strong and applied commitment to diversity, equity, and access as they relate to educational/organizational leadership, policy, and systems improvement
- Ability to build and leverage meaningful partnerships with multiple university/community units for the purpose of educating and preparing leaders who advocate for social justice and lead communities of learning and continual improvement
- Experience with innovative programming around leadership for social justice
- Leadership experience and practice related to or within urban settings with individuals in our communities who have been historically marginalized, and done from a culturally responsive and antiracist lens
- Demonstrated leadership experience and practice in advancing access, equity, and quality education for learners from historically marginalized and underrepresented minority populations living in poverty and/or the educators that serve them
- Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU and community member at large

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience with master and doctoral students including advising and/or chairing dissertations/capstones and serving on committees
- Evidence of successful teaching at the graduate level
- Potential for developing programs for interdisciplinary settings
- Expertise in one or more of the following areas: law in higher education; diversity in higher education/organizations; university-community-organizational partnerships; access and choice in higher education; non-profit leadership; student/adult development; higher education policy; economics/finance in higher education; research methods
- Experiences and practices that inform worldviews and/or perspectives about minority group status, to include race, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, religion, and disability
- Evidence of collaborations with research centers and institutes and/or with community agencies
