Working Title: Senior Instructional Design Consultant Official Title: Instructional Program Manager III Employment Class: Non-Instructional Academic Staff FTE: 1.0 Compensation: $64,379 - $72,000 FLSA Status: Exempt Terms of Employment: Annual, Fixed-term Renewable Position Summary:

The Senior Instructional Designer works closely with faculty and instructional academic staff to assist with the development of courses, incorporating appropriate learning technologies and techniques, for both online and on-site programs including participating in all aspects of instructor development including support in course design, creation and application of multi-media elements, new and seasoned instructor coaching, course assessment, the identification of instructor development and training needs, ensuring the advancement of courses through the application of a quality assurance rubric, and will help direct online course development training for all faculty and instructional academic staff.

Responsibilities

60% Instructional Design, Development & Evaluation Identify and oversee preparation of courses delivered through the course management system, Canvas. Work with instructors and University departments in producing content in multiple formats and for multiple delivery platforms. Use and train others on the use of available technologies to develop high quality, effective, interactive, and engaging online courses. Develop and deliver trainings and orientations and as needed to launch new and/or newly revised courses. Evaluate effectiveness of the design of UW Oshkosh online courses and work closely with faculty to support coordination of new courses and/or course components/modules. Develop, implement and maintain a consistent user experience for courses in the digital learning environment. Ensure that all new UW Oshkosh online courses comply with applicable laws and policies. Consult and partner with faculty to design, develop, implement, and assess technology-enhanced education teaching and learning initiatives, particularly in online/hybrid environments.

20% Research and develop teaching and learning education Engage with faculty who desire to refine and develop further teaching strategies to provide highly successful digital learning experiences for all students. Assist faculty and staff in using online learning technologies by developing and delivering trainings and orientations. Collaborate with ITS personnel in the technology support for online classes and to identify applications and strategies that can be applied to instruction. Keep up to date with educational trends and changes and explore/pilot learning technologies and innovations. Maintain, diagnose, and troubleshoot applications used in teaching and learning. Produce educational materials for use in teaching and learning. Evaluate courses for teaching effectiveness and instructional quality.

20% Divisional and Institutional Collaboration Prepare reports on instructional design activities as needed. Collaborate with the Learning Management System administrator to support online classes. Work with other campus departments to establish and maintain consistent teaching and learning standards and messaging across the institution. Complete mandatory trainings and professional development opportunities as assigned. Conduct faculty workshops in such areas as educational theories, educational technology, distance learning strategies, asynchronous distance learning, and student support mechanisms. Work with the Provost’s office and colleges to develop and implement course development and evaluation policies and practices as they relate to online education. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications Required:

-Master’s degree in education or related field from a regionally-accredited university in instructional pedagogy/instructional design/curriculum development/educational technology or related field.
-At least two years’ experience working with faculty in instructional design and development including applying or creating a model of instructional design within a higher education setting.
-Demonstrated Project Management skills with the ability to work effectively on multiple projects.
-Technical knowledge required for designing and teaching online courses including Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) courses.
-Knowledge of instructional design theory including knowledge of adult learning theories and skilled as a practitioner including instructional design implementation within a professional work environment.
-Ability to engage in leading, mentoring, and training activities within Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETL) and the Division of Online and Continuing Education (OCE) in the maintenance, diagnosis, and troubleshooting of applications used in teaching and learning.
-Ability to implement systematic course quality assurance guidelines.
-Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
-Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Preferred:

-Ph.D. in instructional pedagogy/instructional design/curriculum development/educational technology or related field from a regionally-accredited university and university-level online teaching experience at an institution of higher education.
-Four years’ experience in applying or creating a model of instructional design in a higher education setting.
-Experience in designing, developing, and/or administering online courses in a Learning
-Management or Course Management System such as D2L, Course Canvas, Blackboard, or other.
-Experience with faculty development in a higher education setting.
-Ability to be a leader within the university instructional design and learning technology group.
-Knowledge of new emerging technologies that may be used to enhance student engagement in digital learning environments.
-Ability to develop and deliver trainings and orientations and as needed to launch new and/or newly revised courses.
-Ability to develop and deliver training through a collegial and relationship model to UW Oshkosh staff and instructors pertaining to the utilization of technology for the digital delivery of courses.
-Online teaching experience.
-Ability to work effectively and collaboratively at all levels within an organization.
-Strong analytic and decision-making abilities.
-Ability to work with others and provide leadership to a common vision or goal.
