Job Summary
In support of the university’s strategic plan, the communications content manager oversees the engaging delivery of all written and digital content purposed to convey strategic messaging. This role ensures brand cohesiveness via consistent voice, tone and messaging style. This position is a key contributor to both external and internal communications.
Essential Job Functions and Performance Indicators

Job Responsibilities and Execution
- Serves as the institutional expert on Lindenwood voice for all written and digital communication
- Drafts original communication for website content, magazine articles, press outreach and marketing initiatives
- Copyedits all produced content including university-wide reports, email communication, magazine articles and media buys
- Maintains responsibility for Lindenwood’s brand and communication across all communication channels
- Executes internal and external communication initiatives as guided by communications director, supporting project management and constituent requests
- Works with campus partners to share targeted communication messages through relevant channels, and to appropriate audiences
- Identifies and executes industry best practices for higher education communication in alignment with brand perception study data
- Brainstorms new and creative growth strategies for storytelling and increasing reach
Service Excellence
- Supports the mission of the university and serves as an ambassador of the Q2 culture of service excellence
- Models, supports and holds others accountable to the university’s values – excellence, dedication, integrity, creativity and teamwork
Communication, Teamwork and Collaboration
- Develops brand guideline materials as well as provides writing seminars and training for faculty and staff
- Participates on university committees as needed to foster brand consistency and cohesiveness
- Collaborates with and frequently leads internal teams tasked with key projects, including university communications and project management support
- Maintains a thorough knowledge of university crisis communication procedures and systems
Job may require other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications – An equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered. Additional requirements may be designated by position.
- Bachelor’s degree in English, communications, public relations, journalism or related field
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in copyediting, writing, communication management, corporate communications or digital communications
- Master’s degree preferred

- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures
- Proficiency in AP Style
- Experience in interviewing
- Experience in writing and editing human interest stories
- Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
- Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, faculty, staff, alumni and community
- Highly organized with ability to multi-task
- Excellent project management and problem-solving skills
- Ability to use good judgment and think critically
