Position Summary:
The Senior Proposal Development Specialist works within a team-based environment to support the university's strategic initiatives to grow research, scholarship, and creative activities across all disciplines.

The Senior Proposal Development Specialist will perform proposal, research, and faculty development activities that facilitate both individual faculty members and research teams to become more competitive in securing external funding, while providing detailed proposal development assistance throughout all stages of proposal conceptual development and refinement. A particular focus will be to work with the Director of Research and Faculty Development to strategically identify and provide assistance for the development of large scale, multidisciplinary and/or multi-investigator federal proposals and projects of university strategic importance.

Minimum Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in life sciences, biomedical sciences, environmental science, social sciences or other related scientific or engineering fields.
• Three years of experience in a proposal development full-time position
• Experience in proposal development for large complex proposals submitted to the federal government, (e.g., NSF STC, NSF ERC, NSF EPSCoR RII Track-1 or Track-2, NIH COBRE)
• Experience working with and leading faculty teams in a university or similar environment
• Experience analyzing federal requests for proposals and interacting with funding agency personnel
• Broad understanding of college/university research activities and mission
• Experience in effectively communicating with university faculty and staff
• Experience maintaining and tracking multiple projects with competing deadlines
• Experience working both independently and in teams
• Experience managing competing priorities under strict deadlines
• Experience editing proposals, website content, and other documents
• Experience developing and delivering presentations

Preferred Qualifications:
• Education: Master’s degree or PhD
• Experience developing proposals for the U.S. Department of Energy and/or the U.S. Department of Defense
• Project management experience/training
• Group facilitation experience/training
• Team science experience/training
• The applicant has earned a relevant Research Administrators Certification Council certification (Certified Pre-Award Research Administration [CPRA] or Certified Research Administration [CRA]).
• Experience in using funding databases (e.g., Pivot)
• Demonstrated experience in developing and presenting workshops
