Director of Research

 

The Indiana University Hamilton Lugar School of Global and International Studies (HLS) invites applications for the position of Director of Research. We seek an academic professional to assist HLS in promoting research with cross-disciplinary perspectives and innovative conceptual and/or methodological approaches. The Director is a new academic position with advancement potential in the School. The salary is competitive. The Director will be appointed in the faculty rank of academic specialist. This is a twelve‐month appointment with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2021. Responsibilities: The Director of Research works with the HLS Executive Associate Dean to enhance the academic research portfolio of the School. The Director is involved in strategic planning, identification of potential external funders, data-gathering and analysis, and other activities that support the development and submission of major grant proposals by faculty, working groups, and centers/institutes. The Director also will assist in forming and supporting collaborative research working groups, developing and coordinating collaborative projects in Title VI National Resource Center grants, and undertaking special projects that enhance the goals and mission of the School. The Director reports to the Executive Associate Dean and interfaces with faculty and students, the HLS grants specialist and grants administrator, the leaders of centers, the HLS director of finance, and others involved with research and grants.

 

Qualifications: Candidates must have a doctoral degree in a discipline related to the HLS research and teaching mission. The ability to collaborate across disciplines and world areas is essential. Outstanding organizational and communication skills are needed as well as an ability to multi-task and meet deadlines. Preferred qualifications include past or current contact with funding agencies relevant to the HLS research mission. Also preferred is a record of securing or managing extramurally-funded research or other grants. Residence in south-central Indiana is expected.
