Faculty, Non-Tenure Track, Lecturer - Psychology

Position Category: Faculty - Non Tenure Track (FT)

Summary:
Utah Valley University is seeking a non-tenure track faculty member for a one year lecturer position (with potential for yearly review, up to three years) in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences teaching psychology. This position teaches an assigned 5/5 course load and designs, prepares, and teaches courses delivering content using meaningful and engaging methods with measurable course objectives. The lecturer is expected to teach, manage, and supervise individuals and groups in a classroom setting via demonstrations, discussion, experiential learning activities, and visual aids as well as provide evaluation of learning through written and performance tests. Expected to hold regular office hours and maintain a student-oriented approach to education. In some instances, lecturers may be given access to prepared course materials (e.g., syllabus templates, Canvas shell, assignments) or will teach a course with a coordinated course structure across all sections.

Required Qualifications:
Graduation from an accredited institution with an earned doctorate (or ABD) in psychology and evidence of excellence in university teaching required. Specialization area is open, but candidates with expertise in general psychology, human sexuality, and history and systems will be given priority.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of subject matter and course content.
  • Demonstrate effective instructional pedagogy including teaching strategies and techniques.
  • Possess effective interpersonal, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to manage, motivate, and evaluate students.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and consistently orally and electronically with students.
  • Knowledge and skill in current instructional theories, strategies, techniques, and discipline content.


Preferred Qualifications:
Candidates who have experience teaching face-to-face as well as online in an engaging matter are particularly desired.


Physical Requirements:
Frequent standing, sitting, and walking; continuous ability to see, hear, and speak; Able to lift up to 10 pounds; frequent fine hand manipulation as associated with the use of a computer.
