Faculty - Lecturer Theatre Performance

Summary:
The UVU School of the Arts is seeking a one-year Lecturer to teach theatre performance courses in the Department of Theatrical Arts for Stage and Screen during the 2021-2022 academic year. This Lecturer must be comfortable teaching a variety of courses in performance with a focus on musical theatre. The successful candidate will be a dynamic, skilled pedagogue, and/or professional practitioner able to teach, mentor and inspire at various undergraduate levels of performance training. The faculty member may be assigned to teach a variety of courses that could include Acting for Musical Theatre, private voice lessons, group voice, voice master classes, Acting Styles, History of Musical Theater, Showcase and Career Management, Auditioning, Acting I, or Dance for Musical Theater. Experience in music direction, choreography, or showcase direction is helpful but not required.

Located in picturesque Orem, UT at the base of the Wasatch Mountains and just south of cultural and recreational l hubs Salt Lake City, Park City and Sundance, Utah Valley University is a rapidly expanding, dual- mission teaching university. UVU's School of the Arts has over 1700 students enrolled in over 20 programs, making it one of the largest Arts schools in the state. In March 2019 the School of the Arts celebrated the ribbon cutting on the new Noorda Center for the Performing Arts. “The Noorda” produces academic and professional performance seasons, houses seven different performance spaces for theatre, dance, and music, and has multiple brand-new rehearsal and design laboratory spaces. The Department of Theatrical Arts for Stage and Screen offers the following degrees: BFA with emphasis in Musical Theatre, Acting, and Theatre Design & Production; BA Theatre Arts; and BS Theatre Arts Education, as well as associate and certificate programs.

Required Qualifications:
Master degree in a performance-related field or bachelors degree in a performance-related field with significant professional experience
University teaching experience


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• Knowledge of the theory and practice of performance in the areas of musical theatre and/or acting
• Ability to establish a respectful, positive, and professional training environment for students
• Knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum and instructional design, teaching and instruction for individuals and groups, and the assessment of training results
• Knowledge of current industry practices
• Ability to adapt teaching to the needs of students of differing backgrounds and abilities
• Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills
