Asbury Theological Seminary announces a faculty position in Pastoral Counseling in the Department of Counseling and Pastoral Care to serve the Wilmore, Kentucky campus. Preferred candidates will demonstrate a strong commitment to the integration of pastoral counseling and Christianity within the Wesleyan theological tradition, academic leadership, or the potential for academic leadership within the Department of Counseling and Pastoral Care, excellence in teaching, and scholarship or the potential for scholarship in pastoral counseling.

Candidates must identify as Pastoral Counselors. Candidates must offer demonstrable or transferable pedagogical and andragogical competencies in pastoral counseling and care with an emphasis upon effective teaching in in-person instruction, online instruction, hybrid and/or intensive course instruction at the Seminary’s Kentucky and Asbury Global sites (currently the Orlando School of Ministry, Tulsa, Memphis, and Colorado Springs).

Specific teaching assignments are determined by programmatic needs in collaboration with the faculty in the Department of Counseling and Pastoral Care, and in consultation with the Deans of the Beeson School of Practical Theology, Orlando School of Ministry, and the Provost.

The preferred, though negotiable, starting date is July 1, 2021. This position is potentially a tenure track and the rank is open, contingent upon qualifications and experience. See the additional Asbury Theological Seminary job postings for the counseling area. This Pastoral Care position is potentially one of the current three tenure-track counseling postings at the Seminary.

The normal teaching load for full-time faculty will be six courses per year, as determined by the Provost and Deans, with an eleven-month contract and possible teaching deployments within the eleven-month time frame as determined by programmatic needs. These needs are directed by the faculty in the Department of Counseling and Pastoral Care, in consultation with the office of the Provost and Deans.

Asbury Seminary faculty are eligible to apply for a one-semester sabbatical leave every 3 years to assist with scholarly productivity, service to the Seminary and the church, and to respond to global needs related to pastoral counseling, pastoral counselor education, and supervision.

The initial faculty appointment and required residential living requirement, contingent upon the candidates’ competencies and the institution’s staffing needs, will be in the Department of Counseling and Pastoral Care in the Wilmore/Lexington (Kentucky) area.

Successful candidates must have completed a Ph.D. or comparable degree in Pastoral Counseling or a related degree. Candidates with pastoral counseling experience are highly encouraged to apply. Veterans, individuals with disabilities, women, and all minority and diversity candidates are strongly encouraged to apply. Also, candidates with the capacity for assuming department leadership and/or capacity for serving in an associate dean or dean role will be strongly considered.

Unqualified and enthusiastic agreement with the Seminary’s confessional Statement of Faith, Mission, Strategic Vision, Collegial Faculty Covenant, Code of Institutional Values and Conduct, and Ethos statement is required. https://asburyseminary.edu/about/
