General Summary/Purpose:

The Research Program Coordinator will lead the coordination and operation of Psychological Autopsy projects. Study coordinator for a study working with the Maryland Office of the Chief Medical Examiner to outreach to families who lost a relative to suicide, or other un-natural cause of death. Based at Johns Hopkins Hospital and Bloomberg School of Public Health in Baltimore but involving other settings in Maryland support coordination and operation of qualitative and quantitative projects related to Black men’s mental health research in coordination with Dr. Leslie Adams. Based at Bloomberg School of Public Health and Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore but involving other settings in Maryland.

Specific Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate research outreach to recruit individuals for participation in interviews and ecological momentary assessment study
  • Obtain parental and participant consent, schedule interviews, and coordinate participant incentives
  • Conduct a series of baseline and post-study assessments with recruited participants
  • Conduct a series of assessments, including the Columbia-Suicide Severity Rating Scale (C-SSRS) and Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9)
  • Manage and organize databases
  • Assist with IRB submissions and progress reports
  • Prepare qualitative and ecological momentary assessment training and evaluation materials
  • Prepare psychological autopsy training and evaluation materials
  • Manage, organize, and clean data in the database for all participants
  • Analyze and summarize data from the Maryland Violent Death Reporting System, the Youth Risk Behavior Survey and other data sources using descriptive graphs and tables
  • Develop literature reviews, manuscripts, PowerPoint presentations, and posters
  • Assist Drs. Adams with reports to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) and other agencies.
  • Wilcox and Nestadt with reports to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP)and other agencies.
  • Coordinate study group meetings
  • Assist with comprehensive written reports to the Maryland Suicide Prevention Commission, key agencies, and AFSP on annual basis or sooner if requested (annual reports will document actual progress vs proposed activities, barriers that account for discrepancies, effort to address barriers, and whether further action is needed)

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field required.
  • Some related experience required.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

JHU Equivalency Formula:18 graduate degree credits (semester hours) may substitute for one year of experience.Additional related experience may substitute for the required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior research or clinical experience is strongly recommended.

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
