Job Description

The Assistant Vice President for Inclusion and Diversity for Advancement serves as a key member of the advancement division senior leadership team and reports to the Vice President for Advancement. The Assistant VP is a trusted thought leader, partnering with the Vice President to drive change, leverage national industry connections, and lift the visibility of diversity and inclusion within the Advancement Division and the advancement profession. Purpose of this position is to serve as a strategic partner, invested leader, and change agent who helps the division move forward on a path to address diversity and inclusion with policies, programs, and people. Serving as a champion, convener, and catalyst, the CDO will provide leadership, vision, and direction to the development, coordination and facilitation of new and existing programs and will lead initiatives and coordinate integrated approaches to deepen the Advancement Division’s commitment to an inclusive, diverse, working environment. This position will oversee the advancement inclusion and diversity strategic plan within the division, through serving as a liaison to the Office of Inclusion and Diversity and will be responsible for coordination and collaboration across the various constituencies within the division.

Required Qualifications

Prior experience developing and delivering diversity, inclusion, and equity programming.

Research or industry expertise in the development, attainment, and reporting of strategic goals focused on diversity, inclusion, and equity.

Experience working in an office of diversity and inclusion within academia or industry.

Prior involvement with the recruitment and retention of individuals from underrepresented minority (URM) and underserved groups.

Prior experience in non-profit or higher education fundraising or engagement.

Bachelor’s degree and experience or Master’s degree.

Excellent interpersonal skills that facilitate coordination and collaboration amongst individuals, offices, and entities.

Proven success in advancing Diversity, Equity and Inclusion initiatives

Proven track record of demonstrating a high degree of initiative and flexibility

Exceptional communication skills, a high degree of personal integrity and have the ability to keep the big picture in focus while attending to the small details.

Ability and willingness to travel domestically with occasional evening and weekend work.

Valid driver’s license.

Preferred Qualifications

Previous engagement with advancement officers seeking to secure scholarships and endowments supporting URM and underserved students and faculty.

Prior experience in non-profit or higher education fundraising or engagement.

Prior experience staffing senior leaders and volunteers.

Skill at goal setting and measuring success, and agility in addressing alternate program directions to meet goals when necessary.

Experience using data to evaluate and plan.

Experience identifying, nurturing, and motivating volunteers, and having an appreciation for their role in achieving organizational goals.
