Position Summary
The Franklin College of Arts and Sciences is initiating an internal‐to‐department search for a new Head of the Department of Psychology. Applicants must hold a faculty position at the rank of tenured associate or full professor in the Department of Psychology at the University of Georgia. The Head is the Chief administrative officer for the Department.
The Department Head interacts on a regular basis with faculty and staff in the department, Heads or Directors of other departments and units within the Division, and the Dean’s Office of the Franklin College. The Head also interacts with other offices on campus, including the Office of Research, the Office of Faculty Affairs, the Office of Instruction, and the Office of Academic Fiscal Affairs. The Department Head reports to the Dean of the Franklin College of Arts and Sciences. Renewal of this position is determined every three years by the Dean, in accordance with Franklin College by‐laws. Like all administrative appointments at the University of Georgia, the department head is an “at-will” position and heads may be asked to return to their full-time faculty position for any reason.
The Department Head is responsible for overseeing departmental resources and ensures the success of the department in achieving its missions in teaching and research. The Department Head conducts the annual review of faculty and staff; directly supervises departmental staff; is responsible for the department’s curricular offerings; and responds to requests from the Franklin College Dean’s Office, upper administration, and other units across campus, as required. The Department Head serves as a steward for departmental initiatives; monitors and approves departmental expenditures; addresses issues related to faculty, staff, and students as they arise; works with the Franklin College on development activities; and fields general inquires.
The position has a start date of August 1, 2021.
