Coastal Carolina University is currently accepting applications for the following position: Academic Adviser (Student Services Program Coordinator II) in the Academic Resource Center (ARC). This position will work closely with Department Chairs in advising students within their major.

 

Duties include, but are not limited to: keep regular contact with students during each registration cycle as students follow or adjust their plan of study; provide students with feedback on their academic progress; assist the Chair or Chairs in providing all students within the University accurate and timely information on academic majors, University policies and regulations, and additional academic support services; assist and lead summer orientation sessions; meet with students within the major during the semester to complete forms necessary for graduation; assist departments with recruitment activities; work closely with leadership in the ARC and other college advisors in developing, implementing, and evaluating retention strategies; monitor student progress through the University’s early-alert system; teach one course during fall semester and offer supplementary workshops and study sessions as necessary throughout the year; and other duties as assigned.

 

Requirements: A Master’s degree and related experience are required. At least two years of experience in higher education and former experience with college-level instruction is preferred. Applicants should have the ability to communicate clearly and effectively with students, parents, and faculty; tact and diplomacy in dealing with sensitive situations; the ability to maintain confidentiality; the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines; strong work ethic; and commitment to student success.

 

A successful candidate will also possess knowledge of the basic principles and theories of student development and educational administration; knowledge of the policies and procedures affecting the assigned program areas; knowledge of the techniques of individual or group counseling; the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, parents, faculty, staff and the general public; the ability to identify, develop and implement programs and activities that will benefit the campus community; the ability to provide supportive counseling for a wide range of student problems.
