The mission of the VTCC is to improve the mental health of children and families through clinical care, research, education and public awareness.

Chief purpose of this position in support of above mission or goal

The Department of Psychiatry at Virginia Commonwealth University is currently seeking a full-time clinical psychologist to provide clinical services, supervise trainees, and to enhance/develop research activities in its child and adolescent division. The chief purpose of the Division of Child and Adolescent Psychology is to improve the mental health of children and families through clinical care, research, education, and public awareness. This is an opportunity for a clinician/academic to provide patient care, play key roles in the teaching and supervising of child psychology trainees, and to advance/promote research in the field.

Position Responsibilities

The faculty member will be responsible for providing clinical services in the outpatient, inpatient and consultation/liaison environment. The incumbent will be looked upon to teach and supervise trainees within our APA accredited internship and other psychology training programs. This role will be expected to implement and evaluate evidence-based treatments and develop research initiatives, publish and present scholarly activities.

Teaching and supervision of trainees from psychology, social work psychiatry and medicine.

Reasonable scholarly activities, such as program evaluation, research, publications, presentations at national meetings and participation in appropriate academic organizations, are expected.

Serve on SOM committees, committees within VTCC to enhance and promote the service needs and policy making functions of the university and hospital

Provide diagnostic assessments and psychotherapy to children, adolescents and families with inpatient and outpatient settings. Clinical work includes individual, family and group therapy experience and clinical specialties (e.g., evidence-based practices, substance use, developmental disabilities/autism spectrum). Will be expected to develop those services within the VTCC . Will provide triaging function for clinical cases to appropriate clinicians.

Other (for instance administrative duties, etc.):
Responsible for administrative duties relevant to specialty clinics as needed.

Required Qualifications

– Clinical Psychologist

– Experienced in treating child/adolescents and families

– Virginia state licensure or eligibility

– Demonstrated interest and/or experience in teaching and supervising trainees

– Applicant should have demonstrated interest in writing research proposals, submitting grants to obtain extramural funding, and developing a scholarly/research portfolio

– Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment and a commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU

Preferred Qualifications

– Experience as a clinical supervisor or teacher

– Clinical training and experience in specialty areas (e.g., CBT, Trauma Based Care, Substance Use, Autism Spectrum, Intellectual Disabilities)
