Position Primary Purpose and General Responsibilities

The VCU Computer Center has an exciting opportunity for an Operating Systems Analyst to join our team!

Installs, maintains and customizes operating systems software, utility software packages and related products on UNIX and Linux operating systems. Utilizes VCU Computer Center established project management, technology change management, and problem reporting processes and tools as an integral part of all support activities.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Hiring Standards

This position requires demonstrated knowledge of information technology fundamentals and concepts in a multi-platform, multi-operating systems environment, specifically Linux server operating systems, including Red Hat Enterprise Linux, CentOS, and Ubuntu Server.

Working knowledge of common software languages, utilities and application programs such as shell scripts, Linux Text editors, and other Linux system utilities.

Ability to install software packages on Linux and other Unix-based operating system platforms.

Demonstrated ability to diagnose and resolve problems related to operating systems and related software.

Preferred Hiring Standards

Knowledge of Puppet and microservices containers technologies, especially Kubernetes cluster administration (for instance, Red Hat OpenShift) is preferred.
