Reporting to the Dean of Student Wellbeing, the Director of the Wellness Center provides vision, leadership, and management of integrated health and counseling services. The Director is responsible for the operations, prevention education, evaluations, personnel, budgeting, and all other functions of an integrated student wellness center. The Director is responsible for ensuring the success of Alfred University’s approach to mental and physical health and wellness, prevention education and outreach to the Alfred campus. The Director is also responsible for shaping policy, leading program improvement and assessment, staff development initiatives, and coordinating crisis response plans.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide vision and leadership in the develop, implementation and evaluation of all aspects of the health, counseling, and wellness operations.
  • Provide leadership to develop a college wide framework for health and wellbeing, including partnerships with academic administration and student affairs.
  • Engage in staff education and development regarding shared values and cooperative practices within a multi-disciplinary student wellness center.
  • Provide administrative supervision and complete annual performance evaluations.
  • Assist with recruitment of wellness center staff, serve as an advocate for staff needs.
  • Assist with campus outreach and prevention education programs.
  • Promote professional development opportunities and support engagement with professional organizations.
  • Supervise and oversee the departmental budget and contracted services.
  • Develop effective working relationships with state and local health departments, as well as key area health care facilities and neighboring institutions of higher education, serving as the primary voice on health and wellbeing for the University.
  • Provide leadership in the continued development of a campus wellness program, encompassing clinical care for a diverse student population, prevention, education and outreach.
  • Cultivate partnerships with academic departments and student affairs offices including the Residential Learning Communities, Athletics, Student Conduct, Spiritual Life, Career Development Center, Center for Academic Success, Center for Student Involvement, HEOP, Public Safety, Student Activities and Student Diversity and Inclusion.
  • Coordinate representation and participate in student and family orientation and the on-boarding of new students. Contribute to training programs for student staff, student leaders, staff and faculty.
  • Partner with key campus departments with regard to crises response and serve on the Emergency Response Team.
  • Identify emerging trends and best practices relating to student health and wellness and understand how student wellness influences each individual’s college experience, as well as the community as a whole.
  • Solid understanding of HIPAA, FERPA, The Clery Act, Title IX and federal sexual assault regulations, along with a strong knowledge of holistic preventative health care.
  • Strong consultation skills with particular ability to assess situations and recommend appropriate responses; ability to perform under stress when confronted with unusual or emergency situations.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and public speaking skills.
  • Recommend quality and service improvement initiatives, including those related to the physical plant. Contribute to strategic planning and resource development efforts related to wellness initiatives.
  • Serve on the Dean of Student Wellbeing’s leadership team, shaping strategic plans and assessment.
  • Ensure accurate and confidential record keeping by the Wellness Center, including data on assessment and usage of services and other information necessary to prepare annual reports and to evaluate the Center’s policies and procedures.
  • Ensure accurate function of electronic medical records system.
  • Attend and participate in departmental and Student Affairs meetings.
  • Serve on University wide committees.
Requirements:
  • Doctorate preferred/masters required in counseling, psychology, or social work.
  • Must be a licensed mental health professional in New York State in order to assist with providing counseling service to students and counseling supervision to staff.
  • Progressive experience in student health and wellness, including three - five year of professional experience in a university setting preferred.
  • With or without reasonable accommodations the incumbent must be able to read and write and speak the English language at a college level, be capable of performing sometimes complex mathematical calculations, statistical calculations and other higher mathematical operations, must be able to communicate with all levels of the institution in written and spoken form. The individual must be able to work independently and be proactive. The ability to maintain regular and prompt attendance is essential to the successful performance of this position. Other essential functions may be required.
