Assistant Director, International Student Services
The Office of International Student Affairs ( OISA ) is the international community’s resource for immigration-related needs. The office provides advice, documentation services and information on topics such as visas, work authorization, travel, and maintaining status. The office monitors the regulations of government agencies that have jurisdiction over the stay of international students and is responsible for maintaining institutional compliance. OISA also provides educational, social and intercultural programs that foster international students’ intercultural growth and engagement.
Reporting to the Director of International Student Services, the assistant director serves as one of the international student advisors, primarily to enrolled F-1 students and fulfills other Designated School Official ( DSO ) responsibilities. As a member of the OISA team, the assistant director helps support the office mission and functions.
IMMIGRATION / COMPLIANCE
Guiding international students on maintaining F-1 status and
related administrative and regulatory processes through one-on-one
advising sessions, workshops, and webinars.
Recommending and approving immigration benefits for F-1 students.
Creating and updating educational materials relevant to immigration regulations/policies.
Monitoring alerts and maintaining accurate student data and advising notes.
Assisting in the planning and implementing the International Student Orientation.
Coordinating, marketing and implementing intercultural programming and events including off-campus excursions for international students.
Collaborating with campus partners to create programming that supports international students with their academic advancement, social and cultural integration on campus and in the local community.
Serving as the OISA communications point person.
Maintaining office website, social media account and Wes and the World Newsletter.
Participating in weekly OISA team meetings, and Student Affairs staff meetings.
Assisting in administrative work, including budget tracking, processing student leader timesheets and maintaining student files.
Other duties as assigned.
Bachelor’s degree and minimum of four years of experience working in international student advising, international education, student affairs, international admissions, or a closely related field or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Demonstrated command of immigration regulations on F-1 students.
A minimum of one year experience as a Designated School Official ( DSO ) maintaining SEVIS records for at large volume of F-1 students.
Effective communications skills
Demonstrated ability to comprehend and communicate technical information effectively and diplomatically.
Demonstrated ability to work and/or communicate effectively with culturally, ethnically, and linguistically diverse populations.
Demonstrated ability to manage data with a high level of care, discretion, and accuracy.
Ability to work a flexible schedule including some nights and weekends.
Demonstrated commitment to work within a diverse environment and interact openly with individuals of different backgrounds.
Three or more years experience as DSO .
Master’s degree from an accredited institution in international education, intercultural communication or a related field.
A minimum of two years of experience working with international students in a university or other educational settings.
Strong understanding of student development, intercultural communication theories, and practice.
Prior experience with PeopleSoft and Terra Dotta strongly preferred.
Proficiency in a language other than English.
Experience living or studying abroad.
