Lecturer/Assistant Teaching Professor of Information Sciences and Technology

Penn State New Kensington invites applications for a faculty position in Information Sciences and Technology to begin August 2021. This is a full-time, fixed-term appointment (36 weeks) at the rank of Assistant Teaching Professor (if the candidate holds a doctorate) or Lecturer (if the candidate holds a Master's degree). The initial appointment is for three years with the possibility of renewal.

Responsibilities include:
  • Teaching a range of undergraduate courses in Information Sciences and Technology (IST) including introductory and upper-division courses.
  • Teaching classes in support of our minor in Security Risk and Analysis.
  • Teaching assignments will include evening classes and online/distributed instruction.
  • Demonstrating scholarly activity to remain current in the field.
  • Participating in course, curriculum, and program development.
  • Advising students and provide career guidance.
  • Participating in campus, university, and community service activities.


Qualifications include:
  • A master's degree or Ph.D. in information sciences, technology, or a closely related discipline.
  • Expertise in the area of networking, network security or security and risk analysis is required.
  • Knowledge of and experience in core areas of information technology including database construction and function, heterogeneous application development, project management, and organization theory.
  • Demonstrated commitment to high-quality instruction in a student-centered environment is expected.
  • Interest in active and collaborative learning, the instructional use of technology, and hybrid and online teaching is an advantage.
  • Prior college-level teaching experience is required.
  • Enthusiasm for working in a multidisciplinary environment is important.


Penn State New Kensington is one of more than 20 Penn State campuses located across the Commonwealth. Our 70-acre campus in scenic, rural Westmoreland County is situated only 30 minutes from downtown Pittsburgh, and the location offers a wide range of lifestyles from urban to rural. It is a student-centered campus of approximately 600 students. The coursework for the first two years of more than 160 Penn State baccalaureate majors is offered, as well as 10 baccalaureate degrees and 5 associate degrees. Our students receive a world-class education delivered in a small-campus setting and have opportunities to participate in undergraduate research projects supervised by faculty members.
