REPSONSIBILITIES: The Department of Social Sciences at Claflin University seeks to hire an assistant/associate professor to chair the department. Responsibilities will include: The Department Chair serves as the chief administrative officer responsible for all administrative and leadership aspects of a degree-granting department. Duties include budget planning, personnel management, facilities management, and the daily supervision of full-time and adjunct faculty. Additional teaching responsibilities will include other courses within one of the disciplines of Sociology, Criminal Justice, or Psychology. The Department Chair is also expected to participate fully in departmental recruitment activities within the state and nationally, campus committee service, performance, and research obligations consistent with all faculty appointments.

QUALIFICATIONS: The successful candidate must possess experience in college level teaching and advising that hold a PhD in either Criminal Justice or Psychology. Applicants must have a strong commitment to strengthening a multi-disciplinary department and the university’s mission of teaching, research, and service at a liberal arts institution with a focus on undergraduate research. The ideal applicant has administrative experience and/or evidence of potential for effective administration and communication; a national reputation for excellence in research and teaching; an active research agenda and experience in securing major grants; and strong leadership, organizational and interpersonal skills.

SALARY: Salary and rank commensurate with qualifications and experience.
