University invites applications for a full time, 9-month Assistant
or Associate Professor of Instruction (non-tenure track) position
in the Division of Food and Nutrition Sciences beginning August 15,
2021. The division is looking for an experienced, student-friendly
colleague with teaching experience and a passion for issues related
to environmental and sustainable nutrition. The division is
collegial with respect to course offerings and the specific course
load will be based on the candidate’s strengths and the needs of
the division. The candidate is expected to participate in service
to the school, college and university and advise undergraduate
The division takes pride in our forward-thinking curriculum. The undergraduate program has four areas of opportunity for undergraduate majors (Dietetics, Culinary Nutrition, Environmental Nutrition, and Pre-Professional Nutrition Science) as well as a minor (Applied Nutrition) and two certificate programs (Diabetes, Sports Nutrition). The Environmental Nutrition concentration, a strong focus of this position, will soon offer early assurance to incoming freshman of a 4+1 pathway to a BS/MS for students who maintain program requirements. The graduate program offers a M.S. in Food and Nutrition Sciences in three modalities: a fully online curriculum, a traditional face-to-face experience, and a MS combined with a dietetics internship focused on community wellness.
Environmental and sustainable nutrition is a particular focus of this position and we seek candidates who also have the expertise to prepare and teach lower- and upper-level undergraduate and graduate courses across the curriculum, such as basic nutrition, medical nutrition therapy, pediatric nutrition, nutrient metabolism, etc. In addition, the successful candidate will be expected to mentor undergraduates in professional practice. Standard teaching duties for this position will be 4 courses (12 credit hours total) per semester.
The candidate will be responsible for leadership in the continued development, implementation, marketing, and recruitment of students interested in environmental and sustainable nutrition. We seek an intrepid colleague who can forge non-traditional horizontal relationships across like-minded units at the university. We seek a colleague who will get their hands dirty at the OHIO Student Farm. We week a candidate who will work collaboratively with colleagues at OHIO Culinary (food services) and with external partners. We seek a candidate who will champion new educational initiatives in the area of environmental and sustainable nutrition that will drive expanded enrollment.
The successful candidate will grow our existing collaborative relationships between the community and Ohio University.
