Description

The Department of Kinesiology and Community Health is searching for an outstanding candidate for a nine-month, tenure track appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor. A strong candidate is expected to establish and maintain an externally funded research agenda creating impactful contributions to their field; mentor students at the undergraduate and graduate levels; collaborate with faculty and staff; and contribute to an interdisciplinary department, including a growing MPH in epidemiology. A successful candidate will be able to teach and develop courses for both undergraduate and graduate students, including introductory epidemiology and advanced coursework such as analytical epidemiology, applied epidemiology, and programming languages such as R, SAS, Stata, or others.

Qualifications

The successful candidate should have a Ph.D. in epidemiology, public health, community health, nutrition, or a related field. Candidates with MPH or MSPH degree or a strong public health background are encouraged to apply. A strong record of academic scholarship and teaching experience that meets the qualifications for the rank of Assistant Professor at the University of Illinois is required. Areas of particular interest include, but are not limited to: cardiovascular disease epidemiology; chronic disease epidemiology; nutrition, physical activity, or obesity epidemiology; social epidemiology; and health inequities. Experience collaborating with communities on public health initiatives is desirable.

General Information

The Department of Kinesiology & Community Health (KCH): KCH hosts a diverse group of faculty, students, and staff (ahs.illinois.edu/kch-directory) working and learning in a collegial and collaborative environment. KCH offers BS degrees in Community Health, Interdisciplinary Health, and Kinesiology; MS and PhD degrees in Community Health and Kinesiology; an MS in Rehabilitation Counseling; a nationally accredited MPH program; a nationally accredited MSHA (health administration) program; and a new MSHT (health technology) program.

The College of Applied Health Sciences (AHS): The KCH Department is part of the College of Applied Health Sciences (see ahs.illinois.edu) and affiliated with the Center for Health, Aging, and Disability (see chad.illinois.edu). The College houses the Division of Disability Resources and Educational Services (www.disability.illinois.edu; DRES) which includes the U.S. Paralympic Training Site for Wheelchair Track and Road Racing. The College also houses the Chez Veterans Center (woundedvetcenter.ahs.illinois.edu) which opened in 2015 to provide support services for student veterans.
