Summary

Washington & Jefferson College is seeking a Director of Community Standards. Reporting to the Vice President and Dean of Student Life, the Director of Community Standards takes leadership in promoting and supporting the community values of the W&J campus. The Director works proactively and collaboratively to forward the ideals of responsible campus citizenship that is aligned with the Statement of Community Values and the policies outlined in the Student Handbook, which prioritizes integrity and respect.

In addition to educating students on the W&J community values, the Director is also responsible for overseeing the daily administration of the Washington & Jefferson College student conduct system as well as contributing to the support of services that promote student success and retention. The Director will also coordinate the Student Life Assessment Committee, participate in institution wide assessment projects, and will assist with emerging projects designed to enhance student success at the college.

Duties and Responsibilities

The Director will serve as the primary point person in regard to community standards, both proactively and in adjudicating potential infractions of the Student Code of Conduct. Specifically, the Director will the manage day to day operations of W&J's student conduct system including;

  • serve as the primary contact for students, parents, faculty, and staff regarding student conduct matters
  • develop administrative protocols and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal laws and mandates
  • work closely with colleagues in residence life (including our fraternity &sorority community), athletics, academic affairs and campus safety in supporting adherence to community standards
  • monitor sanction compliance
  • maintain the integrity and accuracy of all conduct records and discipline database
  • work collaboratively to create and present proactive educational workshops, presentations, and programs designed to increase community awareness of and adherence to college policies
  • design and facilitate training for students, faculty, staff as well as Community Standards Panel members
  • serve as a Conduct Officer for major violations of the student code of conduct
  • coordinate selection, training and advisement of all conduct hearing panels; provide administrative support to conduct panels including recruiting panelists
  • process student discipline information requests by internal and external officials; create and assess annual learning outcomes and program goals
  • prepare and distribute various monthly, quarterly, and annual statistical reports
  • coordinate an annual review of the policies in the Student Handbook
  • assist with compiling the Clery report annually
  • chair the Student Life Assessment Committee and assist with institutional assessment efforts
  • develop initiatives to support student success and retention; serve on various committees at the divisional and college level; fulfill additional responsibilities as dictated by student needs, divisional and organizational priorities.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in higher education administration, educational policy, educational leadership, adult development, counseling, or a related field; supplemented with a minimum of five (5) years of related experience in in higher education environments.
