Job Description

The Virginia Tech School of Education is inviting applications for the position of Associate Director of Personnel and Faculty Affairs in the School of Education. We seek an accomplished scholar with a proven record of research and teaching excellence interested in supporting the development of faculty and staff across the career span. This is a 12-month tenured faculty appointment at the rank of associate professor or professor.

Responsibilities:
The Associate Director of Personnel and Faculty Affairs at Virginia Tech works closely with the Director of the School to advance its mission and support the ongoing recruitment, hiring, development, and evaluation of all personnel and faculty in the School, including non-tenure track faculty, adjunct faculty, and graduate assistants. The Associate Director plays a critical role in the induction of new faculty, the ongoing development of mid-career and senior faculty, and facilitates the tenure, promotion, and annual evaluation processes, as well as research leaves and faculty awards and recognition. The School of Education seeks a leader who embodies the principles of Virginia Tech’s motto, Ut Prosim (That I May Serve), the University’s Principles of Community, including the aims and goals of InclusiveVT, and holds a record of scholarship, teaching, and service commensurate with the expectations of faculty at the rank of associate professor or professor at Virginia Tech. This position requires occasional travel and may include some teaching.

Required Qualifications

● An earned doctorate in Education or related field aligned with one or more of the School of Education’s program areas
● Knowledgeable of and experienced in faculty development at all ranks
● Experience with the development and implementation of institutional policies and governance
● Evidence of tangible outcomes related to the advancement of diversity, equity, and inclusion
● Record of scholarship, teaching, outreach, and service sufficient to warrant tenure at the rank of associate professor or professor at Virginia Tech

Preferred Qualifications

● Demonstrated interest in and experience with shared governance
● A demonstrated record of administrative leadership within an accredited institution of higher education
● Experience with processes related to promotion and tenure
● Experience with budgeting and fiscal management, faculty teaching loads, supervision of staff, scheduling, space management, and/or other administrative/management tasks
