Upper School History Teacher – African History & World History Department: Upper School Location: Washington, DC

Sidwell Friends, a coeducational Quaker day school with campuses in Washington, DC, and Bethesda, MD, seeks a full-time history teacher in its Upper School to begin during the 2021-2022 school year. Applicants must possess an undergraduate degree in History or a related field (an advanced degree is preferred) and teaching experience, preferably at the high school level. Experience teaching African History and World History is required. The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate an ability to inspire and support students and will show a willingness to work collaboratively and independently in an environment committed to academic excellence, equity, justice, service, and students’ social emotional wellness. An appreciation for adolescents and a sense of humor are also essential.

The most desirable candidates will also be able to demonstrate proficiency using digital and online platforms for remote instruction as well as proven effectiveness as a classroom teacher in a brick-and-mortar setting. Teaching positions at Sidwell Friends School are campus-based; therefore, this position requires teaching in person.
