Position Purpose: The George Williams College (GWC) Freshman Admission Counselor supports learning by assisting the enrollment and student life areas in recruiting and retaining undergraduate students.

  • Essential Job Functions:

  • Serves as a member of the GWC Enrollment team. Participates in the implementation of the following enrollment functions and strategies:
  • Primary role is to identify, recruit and enroll prospective students in an assigned geographic territory as directed by supervisor. Meets specific recruitment goals as determined by supervisor.
  • Keeps up-to-date and accurate information about George Williams College’s academic programs, the undergraduate student experience, and Aurora University’s admission procedures.
  • Evaluates student high school transcripts, ACT/SAT board scores in order to make recommendations for student admission and scholarship levels.
  • Coordinates high school visits, attendance at college fairs, campus visits, remote/virtual visits, written correspondence, and financial aid discussions.
  • Participates in open houses and other on-campus/off-campus recruitment events.
  • Provides financial aid information to prospective students and families, including explanation of the financial aid process; works with the family to determine a comprehensive financial plan for attendance at the University.
  • Engages with current CRM, and other technology recruitment strategies; actively recommend ideas and process improvements to direct supervisor.
  • Actively, and successfully, moves potential students through the enrollment funnel from inquiry to deposit.
  • Recommends additional recruitment strategies to supervisor.
  • Assists with the programs/services designed to help the student transition from recruit to registered student including Admitted Student Day, Summer Connections and registration/orientation.
  • Supports student life/academic support areas upon request of supervisor.
  • Assists with university/college events as needed or requested, including but not limited to Commencement, Music By The Lake and Sundays at 4.


  • Essential Job Requirements:

    Education:

    • Bachelor’s degree required.


    Experience:

    • Knowledge of higher education and student development theory, practices and/or procedures or enrollment experience.


    Skills:

    • Ability to relate well to prospective undergraduate students.
    • Excellent interpersonal communication, administrative and organizational skills.
    • Customer-service orientation and professional manner.
    • Ability to handle and act on confidential information.
    • Ability to interact with a diverse group of faculty, staff, students, and parents; and to develop strong working relationships with colleagues, staff, administrators, students and the general public.
    • Ability to prioritize work and to meet deadlines required. Flexibility with an evolving work situation.


    Special Requirements:

    • Valid driver's license.
    • Ability to travel regularly to high schools and career fairs, providing own vehicle.
    • Some evening and Saturday hours required.


    Physical Requirements:

    • Ability to move about campus.
    • Ability to interact via telephone, in person and via electronic media.
