Senior Parking Attendant

Position Summary:
Under the general direction of the Parking and Transportation Services Operations Manager, this incumbent works closely with other classified and temporary help in providing quality service pertaining to all aspects of field duties within Parking and Transportation Services. Will act as field lead as instructed by Parking Services Supervisor. This is an essential position that may be called upon in the event of an emergency and/or university closure.


Minimum Qualifications:
  • Minimum 1 year of work experience providing the following:
    - Customer service in-person and via the phone;
    - Using computer software and applications for word processing, email and internet research;
  • Must Possess:
    - High school diploma or GED;
    - CPR/First Aid Certification or ability to obtain within 6 months of employment;
    - Flagging certification or ability to obtain within 1 year of employment;
    - A passenger endorsed Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) within 6 months of employment.
  • Successful candidates will be subject to pre-employment and random drug testing as part of their employment with the University of Idaho.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Ability to:
    - Safely operate different types of vehicles;
    - Maintain simple records and prepare reports;
    - Learn and apply rules, regulations, and guidelines;
    - Understand and effectively carry out instructions;
    - Observe and practice appropriate security and safety precautions;
    - Lead temporary help during events and daily field operations as instructed by Parking Services Supervisor;
    - Establish and maintain good working relationships.
  • Knowledge of or experience working in traffic control;
  • Good oral communication skills;
  • Experience in asphalt repair and maintenance operations;
  • Demonstrated ability to deal with angry and/or confrontational individuals; diffuse confrontational customers;
  • Ability to accommodate several requests at one time;
  • Flexibility and the ability to learn new tasks and willingness to contribute to a team effort;
  • Familiarity with University parking and policies;
  • Experience operating of two-way radios.


Physical Requirements & Working Conditions:
  • Ability to:
    - Lift, carry and/or otherwise move up to 50 pounds;
    - Walk and stand for long periods of time;
    - Work in extreme weather conditions;
    - Perform necessary PIT CREW functions (vehicle jump starts, unlocks, assistance with snow shovel/sand);
    - Work extended hours with variable schedules including nights, weekends and holidays; rotating shift work.
