Journeyman Carpenter - Door Specialist

Position Summary:
Under general direction of the Interiors Foreperson the incumbent maintains and improves the security of Facilities Buildings by performing Journey Level carpentry tasks such as installation of doors and maintenance of keyed access systems and all associated hardware. Provides immediate emergency support for access control to all Facilities Buildings, provide access in times of lock outs. Completes FAMIS work orders and key request as assigned for University Buildings.

This is an essential position that will be called upon in the event of an emergency and/or University closure.

Minimum Qualifications:
- 3 years Journeyman carpentry experience with minimum 1 year of the 3, working on commercial buildings.

- Journey level commercial carpentry experience of: rough and finish carpentry; materials; building techniques of new and remodel construction; following building codes, trade hazards and safety practices and precautions.

- Journey level commercial carpentry experience with the usage of: Hand tools, power tools, equipment, and materials of the carpentry trade.

- Experience constructing, maintaining, repairing, and altering a variety of buildings, structures and fixtures.

- Experience working with wood, glass, metal, concrete, cinder block working practices for installing and repairing doors and locks.

- Experience using a computer and various types of software for emails; internet research, etc.

- Experience repairing and maintaining lock, lever, cam, electronic and electromagnetic commercial hardware specific to university building security.

- Experience making precise measurements related to key fabrication and door hardware installation (standard and electronic).

- Journey level carpentry experience that includes installation and repair of door, and door systems and associated hardware, including wood and metal types; installation of standard and electromagnetic strikes in metal and wood applications; mullion installations and repair; installation and repair of cylindrical locks, mortise locks, narrow stile, exit devices, door closures and ADA access equipment.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Locksmith experience which includes but is not limited to: key identification; key cutting machines; pinning cylinders; cylindrical locks; mortise locks; narrow style locks; exit devices; door closures; electronics and electromagnetic door hardware.

- Knowledge of Life Safety and ADA Codes.

- Ability to communicate effectively and demonstrate human relation skills.

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions:
- Finger dexterity to manipulate small parts found in lock cylinders and lock hardware.

- Experience, willingness and the ability to lift, carry and/or otherwise move items weighing approximately 90 pounds; bend; stoop; climb and work from ladders; stand and walk continuously throughout the work shift.
