The Fine Arts Department at Berry College invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor to join our small, energetic, student-focused, program in theatre. In our new Sisters Theatre, we stage three shows each academic year as majors and non-majors alike explore theatre arts with our faculty and staff of four, including this position. This is a three-year appointment, renewable for an additional three years.

The Visiting Assistant Professor will support the vision and energy of departmental colleagues as together they work to grow a vibrant undergraduate theatre program in a college with a liberal arts foundation. This support includes recruiting and mentoring students, maintaining a professional production environment, and fostering a culture of belonging. The Visiting Assistant Professor should demonstrate the ability to nurture a collaborative team that includes paid undergraduate student employees.

As a faculty member, the Visiting Assistant Professor will also provide high quality teaching with a primary emphasis in the areas of Musical Theatre and Theatre History and Literature. The teaching load is typically three courses each semester in which a play is directed, and the successful applicant will direct at least one or two student productions, including a musical theatre production, year. In addition, the Visiting Assistant Professor will demonstrate an established record of peer-reviewed scholarship and/or professional artistic production. Other duties may include supervising the student Public Relations and Marketing team. The Visiting Assistant Professor reports to the reports to the Director of Theatre and the Chair of the Department of Fine Arts.

Minimum qualifications include an earned terminal degree in a theatre discipline (preferably not overlapping with current faculty-staff in costume and scenic design), with experience in musical theatre, from an accredited institution.
