Job Description

The Charles E. Via Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering is seeking applications for the Undergraduate Program Writing Coordinator. This position will manage the undergraduate writing program in the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department. The successful candidate will evaluate current strategies, execution, and student outcomes to advance undergraduate communication positively. The Writing Coordinator will be expected to provide guidance for department stakeholders in a technical environment for improvement of processes, student outcomes around writing, and incorporation of communication strategies in the curriculum. We are seeking highly qualified candidates who are looking for a career to apply expertise in written, oral, and visual communication pedagogy to specific duties and tasks, in order to strengthen pedagogy to meet/exceed Pathways Discourse and ABET Communication requirements within the civil engineering major. Candidate will guide and facilitate the new experiential learning component of the undergraduate curriculum.

Required Qualifications

Master's degree in a field focused on pedagogy of communication/writing or related experience at time of appointment. Experience working or teaching in a STEM field or environment.

Preferred Qualifications

ESL/EFL training/teaching experience. Assessment experience. Two or three years of experience teaching technical communication. Preference will be given to the candidates with the best credentials and potential.

Commensurate with experience. This will be a full-time, academic year appointment at the Instructor rank.

The Charles E. Via, Jr. Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering has 79 faculty, and a current enrollment of 320 graduate students and over 650 undergraduate students.
