Assistant Professor of Chemistry

 Position Summary:  The Department of Science at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College seeks to hire an Assistant Professor of Chemistry. This is a 10-month, tenure-track position. The successful candidate will have a background in analytical chemistry with expertise in experimental methods such as liquid chromatography and infrared spectroscopy applied to bioanalytical chemistry. Ideal candidates will be able to contribute to curriculum development and teaching in chemistry, biochemistry, and quantitative analytical chemistry. The successful applicant will be expected to teach introductory courses including General Chemistry and General Chemistry labs, Quantitative Analytical chemistry and associated labs and ability to develop advanced undergraduate specialty labs and courses in his/her area of expertise. The preferred candidate will have a proclivity to mentoring students in undergraduate research, and a demonstrable ability to teach laboratory and lecture to undergraduates demonstrating a wide array preparedness. Special consideration will be given to candidates with experience interacting with first-generation college students.

Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College is a residential state college located in Tifton, Georgia, named one of the best 100 small towns in America. The college offers associate and baccalaureate degrees and has an approximate enrollment of 3400. The Department of Science and Mathematics houses a baccalaureate program in Biology with tracks in Pre- Professional, Health Professions, General, and Biochemistry. Required Qualifications:  A completed Ph.D. in bioanalytical chemistry, analytical chemistry or a closely related area is required. Candidates will be expected to develop a research program involving undergraduates in experimental projects leading to presentation and publication. Experience in laboratory instruction, preparation and maintenance is desirable. Preference will be given to candidates with prior safety or chemical hygiene training and certification.
