Position Summary:

The Assistant Dean for Graduate Studies provides overall leadership for graduate education in the College of Engineering (CoE). This leadership role includes the responsibility of establishing evidence- based programs that foster professional development for graduate students and postdocs and enhancing the graduate student experience. Examples of graduate student professional development include increasing the number of graduate student fellowships and awards in the CoE - including the Graduate Engineering Research Scholars (GERS) - expanding resources for students to enhance research skills, and increasing graduate student participation and engagement in professional development activities. Additional primary responsibilities include oversight of graduate program reviews and assessments, as well as CoE policy formulation and implementation related to graduate affairs and graduate research.

Degree and Area of Specialization:

PhD in engineering or related field related to the mission of the College of Engineering

Minimum Years and Type of Relevant Work Experience:

Applicants must have a track record in the field of graduate student education as a faculty member or in a role associated with graduate student education. Ideally a track record of successful graduate school level teaching can be provided with at least 5 years of experience in roles with pertinent expertise.

This vacancy is being announced simultaneously with internal PVL# 232993, please note only one vacancy exists. The two position vacancy listings represent the interest of the College of Engineering to interview candidates with both faculty and non-faculty credentials for this new position.

Required qualifications:
- Evidence of exemplary commitment to and excellence in graduate student mentoring and graduate education from previous roles in steering graduate education programs
- Relevant experience in managing and overseeing graduate education programs ideally in the Engineering field of science
- Strong leadership skills and relevant professional service including oversight of a team of 2-3 people reporting to the candidate.
- Experience with academic program review and assessment
- Experience with conflict resolution and conflict management

Candidates must be committed to sustaining high quality graduate programs, expanding professional development opportunities for graduate students, supporting graduate student services, and building collaborative partnerships within the College and across campus.

Additional Information:

This position is a leadership position in the college and will be subject to an annual review by the Dean and Associate Dean to ensure alignment with the on-going college goals in graduate studies.
