Works under the supervision of the Opportunity Program staff to provide necessary tutoring to all program students. We are particularly interested in candidates from underrepresented groups that can add to the diversity and excellence of our academic program and community.

Responsibilities include: attending all class sessions of assigned courses; working closely with assigned faculty to ensure a clear understanding of the lessons; monitoring assigned students’ fulfillment of class assignments; attending nightly meetings and tutorial sessions; meeting regularly with assigned faculty to determine the proper procedures for augmenting classroom assignments; submitting written reports on students’ progress; encouraged to attend social, cultural, and recreational activities during the afternoons, evenings, and weekends; maintaining an environment conducive to learning; providing personal, social, and academic peer counseling to students; assisting in the critical enforcement of policies, practices, and procedures; attending regular weekly staff meetings and other duties as assigned by the OP staff. Tutors are required to live in the residence hall for the duration of the five-week summer program including weekends, and participate in a residential summer staff orientation preceding the summer program. Room & Board included.

Subject tutors will be hired in the following areas:

Math (1 position), Writing/Critical Reading (3 positions), Cultural Anthropology (1 position), and STEM field (1 position).

*Writing/Critical Reading tutors will be required to submit an academic writing sample.

Minimum Qualifications

Must be a Skidmore student in good academic standing (Class of 2023, 2022, 2021), and must have had relevant coursework in academic subject area. Minimum GPA of 3.0.

Preferred Qualifications

Tutoring experience a plus. Valid driver’s license a plus.

Salary

$2,500 stipend
