Job Description

The Department of Accounting and Information Systems at The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) invites applications for the position of Chair of the Department of Accounting and Information Systems.  The Department’s 18 full-time faculty offer programs at the undergraduate and graduate level along with participation in the Ph.D. in Business Administration through an accounting concentration.  Both the undergraduate and graduate accounting programs were recently reaffirmed by AACSB and are supported by an active advisory council. Responsibilities include leading the reaffirmation of AACSB accreditation efforts in accounting, managing personnel and processes, overseeing budget and equipment/facilities, making teaching and committee assignments, managing course scheduling, engaging actively with the department’s advisory council, and planning, evaluating, and developing programs. In addition, the Department Chair will foster an environment of shared governance, work collaboratively with the Dean in fostering engagement with external stakeholders, and serve on the College’s Executive Committee.

The expected starting date is negotiable. Salary and benefits are AACSB-competitive and appropriate for experience and qualifications.  Hiring decisions are subject to final budgetary approval.

Required Qualifications

Candidates should have a Ph.D. in Accounting with a record of excellence in teaching and research, and currently hold the rank of associate or full professor with tenure.  Preference will be given to applicants with prior administrative experience.  Candidates need to address the alignment of their administrative experience with the responsibilities of the chair as outlined above in their cover letter. Candidates must also have excellent interpersonal and communication skills along with experience engaging with the business community.  Depending on the record of accomplishments, candidates may be qualified for an endowed professorship.
