Concord Academy, an independent college preparatory school for grades 9 through 12 located in Concord, Massachusetts, anticipates an opening in its Visual Arts Department for a part-time teacher of photography, to begin July 1, 2021. Chartered in 1922, the school currently enrolls approximately 400 boarding and day students from 10 countries and territories and 15 states.

The school seeks to appoint an experienced teacher in support of a strong and well-established Visual Arts program. We are looking for candidates with genuine enthusiasm for working with adolescents, curiosity about learning, and commitment to professional and personal growth.
We seek a photographic artist and educator who is committed to and experienced with both the darkroom and digital work, well versed in the history of the medium, has teaching experience that shows students finding their voices, values experimentation, and is a practicing artist whose work informs their teaching and vice versa. The candidate will have excellent interpersonal skills, demonstrated organizational ability, a passion for working with high school students, and experience with engaging inclusive and equitable practices in order to build community in a diverse environment. Preferred qualifications include an MFA or equivalent experience demonstrated through relevant depth of studio practice and previous teaching experience.
In addition to teaching three levels of photography, both darkroom and digital, (seven courses over the academic year, a 70% part-time benefits eligible position, which is expected to increase to 80% time the following year) the candidate will oversee a well-equipped 11 station darkroom, separate film developing area, a digital facility including scanners and printers, and a print finish area for mounting work. They will also manage a budget, oversee the loaner program for cameras and other equipment, manage equipment repair and replacement, and work with vendors to secure supplies/materials for the program. As a core faculty member in a vibrant, collaborative visual arts department, the successful candidate will be encouraged to develop and implement innovative curriculum and work on interdisciplinary projects within the department. The school anticipates being open for in-person learning for the school year 2021-2022 and may need its faculty to be willing and able to adapt to remote or Hyflex (some students in the classroom and some remote) conditions. The school provides a competitive benefits package subject to the terms and conditions of those programs, and salary is commensurate with experience. All faculty members at Concord Academy participate fully in the life of the School; responsibilities include advising, serving on committees and/or clubs, and periodically providing an adult presence at school events. Coaching an athletic team is welcomed but not required and is remunerated separately. On-campus housing may be available, but it is limited, and faculty members are not required to live at the school.
