Director of Career Connections

The Center for Career Development at Bridgewater College seeks an engaged professional to oversee career education programs and manage career-oriented relations with external stakeholders, including alumni, local employers, disciplinary professional organizations and corporate/graduate school recruiters. 

  • The new director will lead the re-imagining of the Center for Career Development, including implementing a new career education curriculum envisioned by the latest strategic plan, outlined by a campus-wide study group, authorized by the College Board of Trustees, and supported by generous donations.
  • The director will be responsible for developing and cultivating relationships with off-campus partners and alumni in order to facilitate educational, internship, job-shadowing, and community engagement opportunities for students. 
  • As a member of the Academic Affairs team, the director will work with faculty advisors and other staff to promote the integration of career education into general education and major curricula.
  • The director will work closely with the Office of Alumni Relations and the Office of Student Life to coordinate career-oriented programming on a college-wide level.  
  • The director will emphasize facilitating social mobility through equitable access to connections and experiences for all students regardless of background or social capital. 
  • The director will ensure a positive, supportive and development-oriented work environment for the center’s professional, support, and student workers. 
  • The director will manage the Center for Career Development budget.


  • Master’s degree and a minimum of five years of career-services or related experience, with demonstrated success in career development, career counseling, or human resources in a higher education environment. 
  • Experience in program development and assessment.
  • Experience supervising and mentoring professional staff
  • A clear commitment to serving and engaging students from diverse and under-represented groups. 
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and experience working with and presenting to diverse audiences. 
  • Commitment to and experience fostering mutually beneficial and long lasting relationships with external campus partners.

GENERAL INFORMATION: Bridgewater College was founded in 1880 as the first coeducational college in Virginia. Bridgewater offers bachelor’s degrees in approximately 60 majors and minors, along with four graduate programs, pre-professional programs such as medicine and law, and teacher licensure. The College is a member of NCAA Division III and the Old Dominion Athletic Conference, with 23 intercollegiate athletic teams. The vibrant residential campus is located in the town of Bridgewater, Virginia, near the city of Harrisonburg in the center of the Shenandoah Valley.
