Job Summary

We are seeking an Associate Director of Operations to join our outstanding counseling team at CU Boulder! Reporting to the Director of Counseling and Psychiatric Services (CAPS), this position supports the director in coordinating the mission and daily operations of a large counseling center comprising over 60 staff members and assists in the development of action plans and goals.

The Associate Director leads CAPS’ five training programs (APA pre-doctorate internship, practicum, post-doctoral fellowship, post-masters social work training, and psychiatry training), ensuring the quality of the training programs and services provided by the trainees. This position also provides administrative supervision to the CAPS Training Team.

The Associate Director works with the CAPS Director in developing and updating the department’s policies to ensure compliance with accreditation, legal, and ethical guidelines, and assists in the accreditation/reaccreditation process for the department. This position develops assessment goals and outcome measures and conducts regular data analyses and reports for the department. Based on the data, the Associate Director advises in making operational changes.

Clinically, this position provides direct mental health services to university students, including psychotherapy, crisis intervention, and clinical case management. The position ensures accurate and timely EHR documentation of the assessment, treatment, and referral processes as they occur.

This role collaborates with other Student Affairs and CU departments as is appropriate for the treatment of CAPS' patients and ensures that issues of diversity and social justice are considered in all assessment, treatment, referral, and training services provided.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Leadership
  • Direct the operations of the clinical and supportive services in the department to ensure quality of services at all levels.
  • Assist the Director in the development and updates of department operational policies and procedures. Assist in the development of departmental action plans and assessment goals.
  • Provide regular and timely data and statistical analyses on the outcomes of services and operational measures.
  • Assist in the accreditation and reaccreditation process for the department.
  • Continuously assess, develop, and improve clinical programs in response to the changing needs of students and the university. Collaborate with the Associate Director of Clinical Services in implementing the best methodologies and innovative approaches for providing optimal mental health services.
  • Prepare job descriptions and hires quality clinicians and leads. Provide supervision and annual performance evaluations.
  • Serve on the leadership team of CAPS, Department's Assessment Liaison to the Division of Students Affairs, and represent the department in other operation-related meetings/consultations/presentations.
  • Provide coverage for the duties of the CAPS' Director during any absence.

Clinical Services
  • Provide an array of direct mental health services to students, including individual sessions, groups, couples, or families.
  • Provide crisis assessment and interventions to clients and families.
  • Provide back-up to the CAPS Director in handling threat assessments for the campus beyond the regular involuntary psychiatric hospitalizations.
  • Maintain detailed and timely treatment records on EHR.
  • Provide after-hours coverage for crisis.

Training Program
  • Oversee and ensure the quality of the training program. Provide backup supervision for trainees.
  • Develop assessment tools and conduct data analyses on the training program and trainee's satisfaction.
  • Collaborate with various departments to administer wellness programs and activities to improve health/well-being for students.


What We Can Offer

The salary range for this position is $104,000 - $125,000. Relocation is available.

What We Require

  • Ph.D. or Psy.D. degree in Psychology.
  • Licensed in the state of Colorado as a Psychologist by the date of hire.
  • Five years of post-licensure professional experience providing psychotherapy in a mental health setting as a licensed clinician.
  • Two years of supervisory experience.
  • Experience providing group and individual supervision.
  • Experience with a range of clinical issues, ranging from developmental issues to more serious psychopathology.
  • Experience providing brief therapy.

What We Would Like You To Have

  • Two years of progressive administrative responsibilities in mental health or college counseling setting.
  • Two years of program oversight, development, and staff supervision for one or more training programs.
  • Experience with budget management and program development.
  • Experience and specific training in threat assessments beyond clinical involuntary holds.
  • Experience and knowledge of APA doctoral internship accreditation standards.
  • Experience with data collection, analysis, and reports for service utilization and outcome measures. Utilize data analysis for program improvement and advocacy.
  • Experience in management of large (60+ staff) college counseling center or mental health clinic.
  • Knowledge of Federal and State standards regarding mental health.
  • Knowledge or experience working with accreditation standards (i.e. APA, AAAHC, IACS, JCAH, NCQA, etc.)
