Syracuse University’s Setnor School of Music is seeking a Assistant Teaching Professor in Music Industry to: teach core curriculum courses in music business and music industry and the media; officiate over music industry forums; mentor and coordinate student internships; participate in curriculum planning, assessment and new course development. Experience in commercial composition and/or songwriting a plus. Other responsibilities for this position include academic advising for both music industry majors and minors and participating in governance and service to the institution.

Qualifications

The candidate must have a master’s in music with documented music business experience of at least 3 years OR a bachelor’s degree in music and at least 10 years of music business experience. Experience in commercial composition and/or songwriting a plus.

The department is particularly interested in candidates who have the communication abilities and cross-cultural competencies to maximize their effectiveness with diverse groups of students, colleagues, and community members.

Job Specific Qualifications

Experience, expertise, and working knowledge of all aspects of the music industry. Past and current research experience or teaching experience relating to industry trends, technological advancements, global initiatives relating to digital music, intellectual property rights and music use in various aspects of media, music marketing, and sound recording technology.

Responsibilities

Teaching core curriculum courses in music business and music industry and the media, officiating over music industry forums, mentoring and coordinating student internships, participating in curriculum planning, assessment and new course development. Other responsibilities for this position include academic advising for both music industry majors and minors and participating in governance and service to the institution.

Service on committees in the Department, College, and University. This may include program development, community outreach, and participating in accreditation- and assessment-related activities.
