Job Description:

As a key member of the Finance department and Controller’s leadership team, the Accounting Manager is responsible for management and oversight of all activities pertaining to Student Accounts including billing, collections, and disbursement of financial aid. The Accounting Manager is also involved in all aspects of accounting and financial activities within the University’s Finance department and should have an excellent knowledge of GAAP based financial accounting and reporting.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage and oversee activities and personnel related to Student Accounts including tuition and student charge assessment, financial aid and scholarship disbursement, student refund issuance, etc.
  • Responsible for compliance with regards to Student Aid disbursement and cash management
  • Ensures a high level of customer service to students and strives for continuous improvement
  • Manages financial accounting and reporting for tuition billing and related accounts, including ensuring timely and accurate account reconciliations
  • Expert user of the University ERP system (Workday), becoming functional expert for the system with regards to student accounts and the general ledger
  • Develop, maintain and update relevant accounting policies and procedures
  • Provide expert leadership in regards to Federal Aid regulations as pertains to disbursements and cash management
  • Review and maintain the student accounts intra net and web site data for accuracy and required updates
  • Oversee and direct annual 1098-T reporting and other required reports as needed
  • Maintains the business processes, calculations and set up of the student accounts, charge assessments and refund rules within the University’s ERP (Workday).
  • Lead development of Student Accounts capabilities for potential new programs as they arise
  • Assist with annual audit, taking leadership role in the Single Audit requirements and all areas of expertise
  • Develop and assist with financial models, analysis and budget of mid and long range planning related to student tuition
  • Develop, maintain and manage monthly financial statements, forecasts and other financial reporting for Senior Management as assigned
  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with Finance team and other departments throughout the University
  • Assist and lead ad hoc projects as assigned


Qualifications

  • 4 – 6 years of experience in related field
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
  • CPA preferred
  • Technical accounting experience and thorough understanding of GAAP
  • Strong problem-solving skills in addition to attention to detail, sound judgement and discretion

  • Strong leadership and innovation skills to assess existing needs, design and implement new and improved processes within Student Accounts and Finance
