Job Description:



Design, implementation, and improvement of novel and established laboratory techniques, maintenance of laboratory records and analysis of results. The main focus of the research will be on analyzing structure and function of natural microbial communities and host/microbiome interactions, as well as characterization of selected pure cultures.

Data analysis and documentation. Besides performing good documentation of own data, help other trainees in the lab to maintain good documentation of experimental details. Help provide quantitative data analysis, and prepare data for grant applications, public presentations as well as formal publications. Assist in grant writing and paper writing.

Develop new assays and methodologies as needed. Serve to maintain quality control for standard assays performed throughout the laboratory; troubleshoots standard assays that do not perform well. Help to create, document, organize and modify formal SOPs (standard operating protocols / procedures) based on current guidelines for good laboratory practices. Perform QA/QC procedures for all scientific procedures performed and create QA/QC procedures for new scientific protocols.

Help maintain the lab orders on a regular basis and keep the routines in good order so that other members will learn about the policies and compliance requirements. Train other trainees on routine requirements in the lab and delegate special lab routines to other members in the laboratory.

The candidate should contribute to all general laboratory duties, cleaning, maintenance of microbial cultures, overseeing chemical stocks and lab safety.

$45-50k/year commensurate with experience and education Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in biology or a closely related field and three years of relevant experience; or a Master’s degree in biology or a closely related field and one year of relevant experience; Doctoral degree in biology or a closely related field.

Preferred Qualifications:

A PhD degree in microbial ecology, microbial physiology, or microbial ecology and at least three years of postdoctoral experience in the listed areas of specialization. High quality track record in the specific areas is a must.
Absolute honesty and strong work ethics.
