Mission or Goal of Unit

The Children’s Hospital Foundation Heart Center offers cardiology and cardiothoracic surgical services with nine full-time pediatric cardiologists providing inter-disciplinary care for infants, children and young adults. The successful candidate will be expected to participate in mentorship, research, teaching and patient care. Demonstrated experience working in and fostering diverse faculty, staff and student environment, or commitment to do so, as a faculty member at VCU is expected.

Chief purpose of this position in support of above mission or goal

The Division of Pediatric Cardiology at the Virginia Commonwealth University ( VCU ), Children’s Hospital of Richmond (CHoR) is recruiting a full-time academic pediatric cardiologist to assume the Chief of the Division and the Co-Director of the Children’s Hospital Foundation Heart Center role. They will be expected to foster a culture of excellence in the missions of clinical care, research, and education. The Chief will be responsible for the implementation of the long-term divisional plans and day-to-day outcomes, and will provide: direct clinical care; clinical administrative and QA/QI activities; didactic and bedside teaching for students, residents and fellows; and mentorship and career development for members of the division. This position will be expected to sustain a nationally recognized research program.

Position Responsibilities

1. Teaching
Faculty member will have teaching responsibilities. Faculty member will provide teaching and mentorship to medical students, Residents, and Fellows.

2. Research
Faculty member will participate in clinical, transitional, and outcomes research. Faculty member will have and sustain an extramurally funded research program.

3. Service
Faculty member will serve on departmental or School of Medicine committees.

4. Clinical
Faculty member will serve as a Pediatric Cardiologist.

5. Other (for instance administrative duties, etc.)
Faculty member will take on administrative duties associated with the role of Division Chief.

Required Qualifications

• Board certification in Pediatric Cardiology

• Experience with clinical care of patients ages birth to 21

• Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU

• A well-developed scholarly/research portfolio with evidence of multi-disciplinary applications and external funding appropriate to complement and expand existing expertise in the department

• Demonstrated excellent teaching skills

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous experience in an academic medical center

• Previous program/divisional leadership experience

• National / international recognition
