The chief purpose of this position in support of above mission or goal:

We are seeking an Academic Advisor I-II to provide support to the Director of Undergraduate Studies and the Wilder School’s undergraduate student population. These services include processing graduation applications, assisting with financial aid appeals, conducting academic requirement audits, assisting with Welcome Week and Open House activities, and providing academic advice to Wilder School students.

This position will work with undergraduate students and faculty from admission through graduation to ensure academic success, collaborate with various university academic units to recruit and provide support to undergraduate students, track undergraduate student files; monitor student progress throughout their undergraduate studies, and ensure that students are certified for graduation in a timely manner.

The Academic Advisor will also develop, interpret, document, implement, assess, and apply University, State, Federal, and School policies and procedures in order to ensure the efficient, timely, and cost effective delivery of undergraduate student support services.

Minimum Hiring Standards

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in the field of Government & Public Affairs, student personnel, college counseling, or a related field.

Demonstrated experience providing academic advising in a college or university setting.

Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff and student environment or commitment to do so as an employee at VCU .

Preferred Hiring Standards

Master’s degree from an accredited institution in the field of Government & Public Affairs, student personnel, college counseling, or a related field.

Demonstrated experience using Banner, SSC Campus (or Foundation) and Degree Works.

Demonstrated experience working with students on student appeals and petitions.

Demonstrated ability to manage academic processes within and across academic units.

Excellent oral and written communication skills and customer service skills.
