Minimum Qualifications
  • A graduate or professional degree in a field relevant to the position OR must possess an appropriate combination of educational credentials and related work experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years full-time professional experience in area(s) directly related to Fraternity & Sorority Life.
  • Demonstrated experience with engagement and advising of students in a co-curricular university setting.
  • Experience with supervising and developing graduate-level and/or full-time staff members to accomplish personal and organizational goals.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills in campus-wide event and program planning and execution.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion; experience working with students and staff in the development of inclusive programs.
License/Certification Required Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The Associate Director of Campus Activities, Fraternity & Sorority Life will provide vision and strategic guidance to a vibrant fraternity & sorority community at Appalachian State University.

Duties and responsibilities of the position include but are not limited to:

  • Direct and lead the overall administrative functions, mission, and strategic direction for Fraternity & Sorority Life to deepen student learning, engagement, and impact.
  • Provide strategic leadership for recognized fraternities/sororities who are members of the Interfraternity Council, Panhellenic Council, National Pan-Hellenic Council, and Multicultural Greek Council.
  • Develop and implement leadership and officer training programs for members of the FSL community working with applicable offices and university departments.
  • Provide support and implementation of policies and guidelines for fraternities and sororities, to ensure compliance with university, state, and federal laws.
  • Budgetary oversight of the Fraternity and Sorority Life budget and 4 governing council budgets.
  • Supervision of the Coordinator of Campus Activities, Fraternity & Sorority Life, one graduate assistant, and administrative student staff.
  • Contribute creative, impactful, and meaningful ways to further develop and deepen the delivery of diversity, equity, and inclusion programs, policies, and practices.
  • Develop collaborative programs and services with chapter advisors, alumni, and national organizational staff, including serving as the primary contact for fraternity/sorority growth.
  • Seek opportunities to develop collaborative approaches in promoting an environment for students which supports the academic mission of the institution.
  • Stay abreast of developments in the profession and engage in continuous professional development.
  • Serve on various university committees.
  • This team member has the opportunity to teach selected Leadership Development courses offered through the Leadership Education minor.
  • The Associate Director for Fraternity & Sorority Life reports to the Director. Evening and weekend work expected as part of a flexible work schedule.
  • Carry out duties as assigned.
Suggested Salary Range $60,000 - $65,000 Physical Demands of Position

Individual in this position must be able to be physically present both at student planning meetings and at student events. Position should be able to effectively monitor crowds both for quality control and for safety management.
